Congratulations to Ayana Lee for being awarded Wethersfield’s January student of the month!
✨What made you decide to start cosmetology school at International Institute of Cosmetology?
My family has barbers in it. Since I have been around the industry I was easily interested in it. Through a lot of research, International Institute of Cosmetology came up many times. My friends came to this school.
✨My Ah Hah moments in Cosmetology school are:
My 1st time doing hilights on client was scary. We both were stressed but at the end she loved it. In that moment I realized “I can do this … the more clients the more comfortable” Now I’ve done almost everything on clients.
At first, I was so scared for haircuts and now that’s what I do the most. When I finish a haircut, I remember I didn’t want Miss Amber to leave my side. Everytime a client says they will come back or when they fill out a review saying I did a good job.
✨Where do you see yourself when you finish Beauty school?
After learning so much I want to be in a salon where they do many services to keep learning.
✨What advice would you give someone looking in to Cosmetology school?
Soak up everything you can and even though you may say you are good at something try other ways and practice.
IIC Plainville, congratulates Karina Tavares on earning Student of the Month for January!
✨What made you decide to go to Cosmetology School and start at International Institute of Cosmetology?
I love fashion and part of fashion is hair. I was doing family’s hair. I googled this school. This schedule matched my schedule and the location was convenient. Once I came here I liked the environment. Miss Corrah was amazing. Being here has been a pleasure. I tell Miss Marissa I don’t want to leave.
✨My Ah Hah moments in beauty school?
Getting positive comments from professionals makes me motivated. When the clients are happy I know I can do this. We get along and they like their service “that completes me”. It’s a challenge for me to work with all types of hair. I would double check with my teachers to make sure I’m doing what the client would like. “It’s important to work as a team.”
✨Where do you see yourself when you finish hair school?
I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for about 10 years. I used to have a career in business. Now I need something for myself that I have a passion for.
✨What advice would you give someone looking in to Cosmetology school?
The most important thing is to have discipline. “It doesn’t matter how much you know, every day you learn something and it’s important to do what is right even when no one is looking” Listen to your clients and work as a team with your educators.
