Congratulations to Aubrey Nicholas for being awarded Plainville’s February student of the month!
✨How did you decide on Cosmetology school?
I have wanted to be a hairstylist since i was a little girl. I have always enjoyed making others feel their best. When I had my son and he was diagnosed with autism one of his battles was hair cuts. I knew then it was my time to join cosmetology school not only for myself but for others who struggle getting their hair done. The hope is that I could make the experience a little easier for them.
✨What were your Ah Hah moments in school?
My Ah Hah moment was when I finally started to understand how to blend out clipper cuts. I struggled with these hair cuts the most but enjoy them so much. With the help and presence of my teacher miss Marisa I now glide through clipper cuts with minimal help.
✨What would you like to do when you graduate?
After I graduate International Institute of Cosmetology, I see myself assisting for at least a year. I plan on furthering my education in hopes of one day opening my own salon.
✨What advice would you give to someone looking into cosmetology as a profession?
My number one advice for students looking into cosmetology school is “Be curious and creative” as it’s the number one key to success.
IIC Wethersfield, congratulates Madison Thibodeaux on earning Student of the Month for January!
✨How did you decide on cosmetology school and going to International Institute of Cosmetology?
I was always interested in cosmetology. When I was younger, I would watch hair and makeup tutorials online for fun, and always change my hair color. I would even try and do my friend’s hair. I decided to start cosmetology school so I could have a career doing something I love. My cousin was a student at IIC and loved it, so I knew it was a good school.
✨What was your Ah Hah moment?
I would say an Ah hah moment for me would be my first day on the salon floor. I had a haircut, and the client wanted a good amount of hair off. I was super nervous but quickly learned that my instructors wouldn’t let me ruin someone’s hair. By the end of the cut my client was happy. I realized then, I could do this and that I really enjoyed cutting hair. “I love seeing how much a haircut can really transform someone’s look.”
✨Where do you see yourself once you are done with school?
I would love to see myself working in a creative salon environment where I can keep learning and growing as a hair stylist.
✨What advice would you give someone looking into cosmetology as a career?
I would say ask as many questions as you can and never say no to doing a service. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family if you can practice on their hair.
