After many years in the making, IIC is now offering a CT State approved 1000 hour Barber program. Not only does our program give you hands-on training in everything from precision haircutting, color and texture to skincare, shaving and grooming, plus the personal and business skills you need to build a successful career; we help you get licensed too!
IIC Barber program’s curriculum uses Pivot Point Fundamentals: Barbering library as well as IIC’s proprietary content.

This class leads to CT licensing after successfully passing CT State board exam.

- Private pay students: Down payment of $2,500 is required

- Step 3: Answer Questions from Sallie Mae. When you reach spot to enter school name type in’International Institute of Cosmetology”. Please note only wethersfield school address will be available and thats ok (its our main office)
- Step 4: Hit continue and proceed with the Smart Option Student Loan Application
- Step 5: After your approved, select the desired repayment option and interest rate
- Step 6: Review loan docs and terms, provide any additional information requested and e-sign. Sallie Mae will work with IIC to take care of the rest

Are there classes in Spanish?
Currently IIC does not provide classes in any other language other than English.

Do we learn how to style hair?
Yes, as part of the Barber curriculum students learn a variety styling techniques on variety of hair textures.
Will we learn how to make wigs?
Making wigs is not covered in the Barber curriculum, although there are various outside advanced education sites that a student can explore.
Is the schedule flexible?
Currently Barber program is only available on a limited schedule. Consistent attendance is necessary to progress through the course properly.
Do you need a high school diploma to enroll?
Because the school is a post secondary institution, a High school diploma or equivalent is necessary to enroll.
Can I get Financial Aid?
Federal Financial Aid is not available for this program at this time. IIC offers interest free payment plan and students could also look at other lending options such as: local bank, credit union or a lender like Sallie Mae

Do you take home schooled students?
Home-Schooled students may be eligible for enrollment if they meet state law standards, provide a certificate of completion, and have a 3rd party sign a statement verifying completion of home-schooling.
Objective
Objectives of the Barber program is to complete the State required 1000 hours instruction and successfully prepare students to take the State Board Exam. Students can expect to complete this program within 39 weeks. Upon completion of program an IIC diploma will be issued, and then the State Board Examination is taken leading to licensure in the State of Connecticut. Instructional methods include the use of web based learning platform called LAB as well as theory and practical instruction.
This barber program prepares students on the foundational concepts and practices associated with Barbering. It is comprised of 1000 clock hours following the approved CT DPH curriculum. The program’s instructional methods include interactive lectures, practical assignments on both mannequins and patrons, group activities, workshops, videos and other learning resources.

CT Barber License by Examination Requirements
An applicant for Connecticut barber licensure must meet the following requirements:
Successful completion of at least the 8th grade or its equivalent;
Equivalency may be demonstrated by successful completion of General Educational Development Test or one of the following Ability to Benefit Examinations:
- Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)-Forms 5 and 6, Level A
- Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)-Forms 7 and 8, Level A
- Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WSBT ) – Verbal Forms VS-1 & 2, Quantitative Forms Qs-1 &QS-2;
Successful completion a course of study of not less than 1,000 hours in a school approved by the Connecticut State Board for Barbers, Hairdressers and Cosmeticians. Education completed outside of Connecticut is acceptable provided the school was approved by the appropriate regulatory body of the state in which the school was located; and
Successful completion of the Connecticut barber examination administered by Prometric. Scores are submitted directly to the Department subsequent to the examination administration. Please visit Prometric to obtain a candidate information bulletin which provides information relative to registering for the examination. The examination is available in both the English and Spanish languages.
