IIC’s December 2024 Students of the Month

Congratulations to @kathryns_hair_experience for being awarded Wethersfield’s student of the month!

✨What made you decide cosmetology & go to IIC?

What made me come to International Institute of Cosmetology is my passion in hair and making others happy and feel beautiful.

✨My Ah Hah moments in school were (time you realized this is what you should be doing)?

Seeing the smiles on people’s faces after I complete a service are the most memorable moments for me. It makes it clear to me why I want to pursue this journey of making people laugh, smile, and overall feel good.

✨Where do you see yourself when you finish school?

I see myself working in a family friendly salon that takes in every client and works with all types of hair. No matter how curly or how straight your hair is you’re always welcomed.

✨What advice would you give someone looking into Cosmetology school?

Always be nice to others and always help others out in school. Cosmetology school is not just independent education it’s about teamwork and learning from not just your educators but from your peers too.

✨ What made you decide to come to cosmetology school and choose International Institute of Cosmetology ?

It started when I grew out my hair really long. I went to a hairdresser and asked for a specific highlight and the layers looked unflattering on my curly hair. Through that bad experience I realized that I wanted to gain the tools to work on clients with similar hair as mine.  I toured a bunch of schools. International Institute of Cosmetology focuses on color and transitioning into the salon experience. The hands-on color experience was appealing. The environment felt right for me.

✨ What was one of your aha moments while you were in school?

I had a few moments:

One that stands out in phase 3…I was able to visualize what I knew and could explain it. Ms. Kesha was able to get me to expand what I was saying. I was able to get into a rhythm of explaining and seeing what someone is starting with and know how to explain what they need. Now I am able to articulate what needs to happen to give the client the outcome they are looking for.

Now I have a system to break down what someone is looking for and to see what they are starting with. Then, I let them know what it would take to create it.

✨ Where do you see yourself after cosmetology school?

I see myself after cosmetology school working at a salon. My social media platforms are what I want to work on to gain show clients more of what I’m about. I’m inspired by hairdressers that are creating content to promote what clients would expect when they come see me.

✨ What kind of advice would you give someone looking into cosmetology school?

Advice I would give to someone looking into cosmetology school don’t  be scared, it’s just school. I did tattoo apprenticeship for 1 year and this is less scary.  Hairdressing is a great way to be artistic and build relationships.
